We Did It!!! 5K Recap!

Woooooooo, am I glad that's OVER! We woke up Sunday morning to a HUMID, overcast day. We set off for the starting line and arrived early enough to check out the competition. There were some serious runners here, I was a little bit intimidated. Ok, maybe a lot. We walked around and checked out all the vendors, pinned on our bibs, and took our places at the very back of the pack.

Did some light stretching. Snapped some really bad iphone pics. And then they blasted the air horn and we were off!

B is much better at this than I am, so he took off at his own much faster pace and I stayed behind at the back of the pack. The way back of the pack. Pretty much I was the last "runner" of the race. Behind me were moms with strollers and people that deliberately came to WALK the whole way. I definitely struggled. Between the humidity and the cramps I found myself walking a lot more than I wanted to. But I pushed through and as I rounded the corner to the final stretch, there was B waving me in. There was a girl ahead of me the whole time and she was walking the last leg of it and there was no way I was letting her beat me! I sprinted the last of it and just crossed the finish line ahead of her. With B there cheering me on and the rest of the people at the finish line clapping and cheering it was pretty awesome. I even got a little choked up!

Finished!! B wound up finishing in 32 minutes, I'm so proud! It took me 45... ouch. But I'll take it!

I quickly went over to the water station, downed a few cups of water, sat down for a few minutes, then we got up and took advantage of all the free goods from the vendors. I was excited to find a lot of goodies that I could take home. Unfortunately I didn't get any photos of any of them. :( My favorite item of the day was a gluten/casein free protein shake which I immediately downed. It was a delicious, Mix1 All-Natural Protein Shakes - Chocolate flavor. (concerned about the casein/lactose content of Whey Protein? See this article) They also had a physical therapy team doing post race stretching for the runners. I definitely took advantage of that. Also they are offering $15 off a 1 hr massage at their location for anyone that ran the race. I think I might have to take them up on that offer!

Just before heading home, we grabbed a photo op with the guys that had run dressed as Oompa Loompas! Too bad they had already changed out of their shirts and washed off their orange faces, but you can still see a little orange and the green hair. Too funny.

It was awesome. I'm so glad I did it. B wants to sign up for more, he mentioned once a month! I think he's a little crazy, but we'll see. I definitely already scoped out some upcoming races. Thanks everyone for all your encouragement leading up to this day. I'm so glad it was a success!

I have a problem.....

Hello, my name is Jen, and I'm a sugarholic. **Hi Jen**

I had a stressful day yesterday, so I went to b.good for lunch and had a burger on an Udi's bun and then went over to Whole Foods for a snack. I wanted something different and these happened to catch my eye. I haven't tried these yet and had heard good things, so grabbed them. The thing about me is when I get something sweet, it's best for me to get something in a single serving. Otherwise THAT ^ happens. I bought that package at lunch yesterday. It is 10:40 am. They are gone. I have a problem....

Last night I went out for my first full length practice run. The 5K is THIS SUNDAY and I took off a bunch of time from training during that nasty sinus infection and then we had terrible weather. I have run a couple of times in the past week and it was a struggle at first but last night I finished all 3.2 miles. It took me 45 minutes, but that's because I had a NASTY side stitch.. probably from the half package of cookies I ate. I had to walk a lot but I know that I'll do better with my time on Sunday. The plan is to not eat any sugar for the rest of the week. No cookies, no ice cream, no cake, nothing! I'm so frustrated with my diet lately!

If you are wondering how those Kinnikinnick cookies are, they are fabulous. A cross between Chips Ahoy and Soft Batch. Obviously I loved them...

Review: Enjoy Life Foods NEW Crunchy Cookies

I recently had the pleasure of trying out all four varieties of the new Crunchy Cookie line from Enjoy Life Foods. I love cookies, as you may have noticed, so I was very excited to try these.

When I opened the box, the first cookies I saw were the Vanilla Honey Graham. I know there are GF Graham crackers/cookies out on the market these days, but I have not tried any of them yet. I haven't had graham crackers in years and I love them. These did not disappoint. They are sweet and super crunchy with that old familiar graham flavor and a hint of vanilla and honey. I plowed through the whole box.

The next box I dove into was the Double Chocolate. Double Chocolate Chip cookies are my all time favorite. And these were awesome. Again, super crunchy with great chocolate flavor. I was supposed to bring all of these boxes down to the Cape for our vacation, but somehow I managed to finish ALL of them before we even left. I have a problem... it's bad.

Next up comes the Chocolate Chip. What can I say? Another big hit. These reminded me of Chips Ahoy only thinner. They have that great, familiar chocolate chip cookie flavor. I actually bought myself another box of these cookies last week. I wanted to make an ice cream sandwich with them. And I did. And it was amazing.

And last but not least we have the Sugar Crisp cookies. I have to admit that these were my least favorite... although that is definitely not to say that I didn't like them! But while I'm a giant cookie lover, sugar cookies have always been the black sheep of the cookie family for me. I used to be so disappointed when my mom would make sugar cookies. It's one of the very few cookies that I would rather just not eat. I can't believe I even typed that sentence! But seriously, these are really good too. I highly recommend the entire line if you're a crunchy cookie fan.

Do you remember, the 21st night, September?

I absolutely love September and Fall is without a doubt my favorite time of year. This particular September is packed filled with WEDDINGS!

Labor Day weekend was my friends Nick and Alicia. The day started out crappy but by the time the outdoor ceremony started, the sun came out and it turned out to be a beautiful day. It was such a fun time and I danced like a crazy person all night long.

Last weekend on 9.10.11 my co-worker Jenny got married to Tyler. They have been living in DC for a while now so it was great to see her. My co-workers and I had a blast, also dancing like crazy people all night. The reception was an early one so we managed to hit up a bar afterwards. Maybe not the best choice.... we had a great time haha. (photo at the top - co-workers with the bride)

This weekend is thankfully going to be a quiet one, but then the following weekend I'm backup photographing a wedding with my friend Kelly, and then October 1st is the last wedding of the season which is B's friend.

All of this partying is not really doing me any favors though, I've been way over-indulging in junk food and sweets. I also have been slacking on my couch to 5K progress. I was knocked out for two weeks with a nasty sinus infection. Never in my life have I experienced such bad headaches!! The 5K is in a week and a half! I'm going to try to finish the training and do the run. We still haven't registered for it, we'll see what happens. I'm also thinking about getting back to Paleo eating. One of the girls I met at the first wedding has done the diet with her husband and they had great success with it as well. Gave me a little inspiration to get back to it. B is also trying to clean up his diet as well so hopefully we can do this together. Of course the holidays are right around the corner, which means try as I might, I usually don't end up changing anything until after Christmas! It's going to be a very busy fall/holiday season. All I can do is try my best every day!!
